Add and manage Secure Notes in Arrow

With Secure Notes, you can save important information that needs to be stored securely but accessed easily. You can store information like alarm codes, account numbers, recovery keys for accounts unrelated to Arrow, and private notes of up to 10,000 characters. You can share your notes securely with other people who use Arrow.

You can also store photo IDs and other important documents safely by attaching them to Secure Notes. You can't share Secure Notes that have files attached, and you can't attach files to Secure Notes that are already shared. Files attached to Secure Notes aren't included in DASH or CSV export files.

Add a Secure Note

Select the app you're using to see how to add a Secure Note.

Create a Secure Note in the web app

  1. Go to the Secure Notes section in the web app.
  2. Select + Add new in the top menu. The editor opens.
  3. Enter a Title and your note content.
  4. Optionally, choose a color for the Secure Note icon in your list or add the note to one or more Collections.

  5. If you have an account protected by a Master Password, you can select the Require Master Password checkbox for an added layer of security. We'll ask for your Master Password when you open the item.

    If you log in using single sign-on (SSO), you won’t have the Require Master Password option.

    SSO means you use one login application to access Arrow and other work accounts. Instead of a Master Password, you use your regular work password to log in to Arrow. If you don't know whether you have SSO, ask your plan admin.

  6. Select Save. The Save button appears after you add content to your Secure Note.

Create a Secure Note in the Arrow iPad or macOS app

  1. Open the Arrow app and go to the Secure Notes section.
  2. Select the plus (+) icon in the upper-right corner and then select Add Secure Note.
  3. The editor opens. Enter a Title and your note content.
  4. Optionally, choose a color for the Secure Note icon in your list or add the note to one or more Collections.

When you open the item, we'll ask for your Master Password or biometrics like Touch ID or Face ID—unless you've entered your Master Password or used biometrics in the last five minutes.

  6. Select Save.

Create a Secure Note in the Android app

To add a Secure Note, select Home in the Arrow Android app. You can also select Secure Notes in the bar across the top.

  1. On the All items screen, select + Add new.
  2. From the menu, select Secure Notes.

  3. The editor opens. Enter a Title and your note content.
  4. Optionally, choose a color for the Secure Note icon in your list or add the note to one or more Collections.

  6. Select the checkmark icon to save the note.

Create a Secure Note in the iPhone app

To add a Secure Note, select Home in the Arrow iPhone app.

All the item types appear in a bar near the top. Select Secure Notes and then select Add Secure Note.

You can also select the plus (+) icon in the upper-right corner of the Home screen.

  1. Select Add Secure Note from the menu.
  2. The editor opens. Enter a Title and your note content.
  3. Optionally, choose a color for the Secure Note icon in your list or add the note to one or more Collections.

Edit a Secure Note

Select the app you're using to see how to edit a Secure Note.

Edit a Secure Note in the web app

  1. Open the Secure Note.
  2. Place your cursor in the Title or Content box where you want to make your changes or delete information.
  3. When you're finished, select Save at the bottom of the note.

  1. Open the Secure Note.
  2. Select Edit in the upper-right corner.
  3. Place your cursor in the Title or Note content box where you want to make your changes or delete information.
  4. When you're finished, select Save in the upper-right corner.

  1. Open the Secure Note.
  2. Select Edit, shown as a pencil icon, in the upper-right corner.
  3. Place your cursor in the Title or Content box where you want to make your changes or delete information.
  4. When you're finished, select Save, shown as a checkmark, in the upper-right corner.

  1. Open the Secure Note.
  2. Select Edit in the upper-right corner.
  3. Place your cursor in the Title or Note content box where you want to make your changes or delete information.
  4. When you're finished, select Save in the upper-right corner.

Attach files to a Secure Note

You can securely store sensitive documents—like passports or birth certificates—by attaching them to Secure Notes. You can store up to 1 GB of files in your account, and each file can be up to 15 MB.

You can't share Secure Notes that have files attached, and you can't attach files to Secure Notes that are already shared. Files attached to Secure Notes aren't included in DASH or CSV export files.

You can store files in most common formats, including these file types: DOC, DOCX, KEY, NUMBERS ODS, ODT, PDF, PPT, PPTX, TXT, XLS, XLSX, 3GP, AAC, AVI, BMP, FLAC, GIF, JPG, M4A, MKV, MOV, MP3, MP4, MPG, OGG, PNG, RAW, TIFF, WAV, WEBM, WMV, 7Z, DB, RAR, and ZIP. You can also store documents without extensions.

Important: When you delete a file attached to a Secure Note, you can't get it back.

Store files in the web app

  1. Create a Secure Note or open an existing note in the web app.
  2. Open the Attached files tab.
  3. Select Attach file, then select the file you want to upload.

After you save your note, a paperclip icon appears next to the note in your list of Secure Notes. This icon shows that the note now has an attachment.

Download or delete a file in the web app

  1. In the web app, open the note and then open the Attached files tab.
  2. In a file's row, select Download attachment, shown as a down arrow and an inbox, or Delete attachment, shown as a trash can, and confirm.

Important: When you delete a file attached to a Secure Note, you can't get it back.

Store files in the Arrow iPad or macOS app

  1. Open the Secure Note you want to attach the file to. If you want to attach the file to a new Secure Note, create and save the note first.
  2. In the Attached files section, select Attach file, and then select the file you want to upload.
  3. Select the right-pointing arrow to view the attached file. You can download, rename, or delete a file from its 3-dot menu. On the iPad, when you select Download, you open the file to view it within the Arrow app. You can't export the file out of Arrow. In the macOS app, when you select Download, you can open the file to view it and export it.
  4. Select the plus (+) icon in the upper-right corner to continue to add files.
  5. Select the left-pointing arrow to return to the Secure Note.

Important: When you delete a file attached to a Secure Note, you can't get it back.

Store files in the Android app

  1. Open the Secure Note you want to attach the file to. If you want to attach the file to a new Secure Note, create and save the note first.
  2. Select the paperclip icon in the menu bar.
  3. If you haven't previously attached files to this Secure Note, you'll go directly to your device's Downloads folder. If you've already attached files to this Secure Note, select the plus (+) icon on the next screen to get to the Downloads folder.
  4. In your device folders, select the file you want to attach. The file uploads directly to your Secure Note.
  5. Select the left-pointing arrow to return to the Secure Note.

After you save your note, a paperclip icon appears next to the note in your list of Secure Notes. This icon shows that the note now has an attachment.

View, download, or delete a file in the Android app

  1. Open the Secure Note.
  2. Select the paperclip icon in the menu bar.
  3. Select the file once. The file downloads.
  4. Select the file again. A pop-up opens.
  5. In the pop-up, select View, Save a copy to Download folder, or Delete.

To delete more than one file, hold your finger on one of the files until you see a checkmark icon next to the file. Then select all the files you want to delete and select the trash can icon. Confirm by selecting Delete in the pop-up.

Important: When you delete a file attached to a Secure Note, you can't get it back.

Store files in the iPhone app

  1. Open the Secure Note you want to attach the file to. If you want to attach the file to a new Secure Note, create and save the note first.
  2. Select Attach a file or Attach another file.
  3. Select how you want to add the file:
    • Take a photo
    • Scan documents
    • Choose a photo
    • Choose a file
  4. After you select the file, you can rename it.
  5. When viewing the attached file, select the plus (+) icon to continue to add files.
  6. Select Close to return to your list of Secure Notes.

Download, rename, or delete a file in the iPhone app

  1. Open the note and select “1 file attached.” If several files are attached, the number updates.
  2. Select the 3-dot menu.
  3. Select Open, Rename, or Delete. When you select Open, you open the file to view it within the Arrow app. You can't export the file out of Arrow.
  4. Select Back to return to your Secure Note.

Important: When you delete a file attached to a Secure Note, you can't get it back.

Share a Secure Note with other Arrow customers

After creating a Secure Note, you can safely share the note with other Arrow customers. Open or edit the Secure Note and select Share, sometimes shown as a person with an arrow icon.

Enter one or more email addresses and select Send.

If you're a member of a Arrow professional plan, you can share Secure Notes with Arrow groups. You can also add Secure Notes to Collections and share them with other members.

If you share a Secure Note with the wrong people or change your mind, you can edit or revoke access to the Secure Note. Arrow deletes the revoked Secure Note from the other Arrow accounts.

Note: You can't attach files to shared Secure Notes or share notes that already have files attached. You can't share a Secure Note if someone else shared the note with you and gave you Limited rights. If a Secure Note has a file attached or you only have Limited rights for the note, you won't see the Share button in the note.

Delete a Secure Note

If you haven't shared a Secure Note, you can delete it from your vault. Open or edit the Secure Note and select Delete or Delete Secure Note, sometimes shown as a trash can or an option in the 3-dot menu. The delete action is irreversible. You can't retrieve a deleted Secure Note.

Can I delete a shared Secure Note?

Based on your permissions, you can delete a shared Secure Note from your vault as long as someone else has full rights or you revoke permissions.

  • If you've shared with other people or a group with limited rights, you can't delete the note until you grant someone else full rights or revoke everyone else's rights.
  • If you've shared with an individual with full rights, you can delete the note, but it doesn't disappear from the other person's vault. If you share with a group with full rights, you can't delete the note until you revoke the group's rights.
  • If you delete a Secure Note someone else created and shared with you regardless of the rights assigned, the note is only deleted from your vault.
  • If you no longer want to share a Secure Note with a person or group but don't want to delete the note, you can revoke access. The Secure Note is deleted from all other vaults.

You can lock a specific Secure Note, so you need your Master Password or biometrics to unlock it. You won't have to unlock a Secure Note more than once every five minutes or right after you've logged in. After unlocking, you can edit or delete the note.

Require Master Password for individual Secure Notes

To find a Secure Note, search for the note in Arrow's search bar. If you've locked your note, you need to enter your Master Password or use biometrics to access it from the search bar.
