To make sure Arrow runs smoothly, you need to keep your computer, phone, or tablet—often referred to as devices—up to date. If you're using the web app, you also need a recent browser version. We sometimes use the term "minimum requirements" to refer to the earliest version of your device and browser you can use with Arrow.
Keeping your device and browser updated ensures that you can use the most recent version of the Arrow app.
Note: We can't guarantee Arrow will work as intended in Developer Mode or beta versions of mobile devices and browsers in the testing phase. We only ensure that Arrow functions on official and stable versions that meet the minimum system requirements.
Why do I need a recent version of the Arrow app?
Arrow releases new versions every one or two weeks. These updates include new and improved features and bug fixes. But they also include necessary security improvements that help us keep your data safe.
Additionally, we deactivate versions of our app that are older than 12 months. Deactivating older versions of Arrow is a requirement for keeping your data secure. You can't log in to Arrow if you haven't updated your app in the past 12 months.
You can check which versions of your app are expiring by going to our release notes and looking at the versions released a year ago.

What if I can't update my Arrow app?
If your device doesn't allow you to update to the latest version of Arrow, we recommend trying to update your operating system and browser. To keep your data secure, Arrow only works with recent versions of operating systems and browsers.
If you receive a message that says the app may not work soon, you might have an older device that doesn't allow you to update to a version that works with Arrow. In this case, you must use another device with a more recent operating system.

Your operating system, or OS, is the software that manages your computer's basic functions. Computer companies release new versions of the OS every few months.
If you're using Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or another Chromium browser, you can use any computer operating system that allows you to update both the Arrow extension and your browser. You can use the Arrow web app and extension in Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or any Chromium browser. The browser DuckDuckGo can't currently use extensions, including the Arrow extension. If your Chrome version is 114 or earlier, you won't be able to update the Arrow extension.
For Arrow to work properly, you need one of your browser's last two major versions. For example, if the current version of Chrome is 122.0.6261.129, you can use any version that begins with the number 121 or 122.
You can see steps for updating your browser and find information about your current version on the support sites for these browsers:
