When you turn on Biometric unlock or PIN lock, you can use your fingerprint or a PIN code to open the Arrow Android app. With these settings, you can quickly and securely unlock the app without entering your Master Password.

Arrow still asks you to enter your Master Password after restarting your device or logging out manually. We'll also ask you to enter your Master Password from time to time to make sure that you remember your password.

Turn on biometric unlock for your Arrow Android app

You need a fingerprint stored in your device settings before turning on biometric unlock in the Arrow app. If you haven't already, go to the device settings of your phone or tablet, turn on biometrics, and store a fingerprint. Depending on your device, you'll likely find the setting in a section named "Security," "Biometrics," or "Fingerprints."

Log in to the Arrow Android app.
Select the menu icon, shown as three horizontal lines, to open the side menu.
Select Settings and then Security.
Turn on Biometric unlock.
We'll ask for the fingerprint you stored when turning on biometrics for your device. Scan your fingerprint.
After you turn on biometric unlock, we'll ask if you want to turn on Biometric recovery, so you can reset your Master Password and recover your account with your fingerprint. Select Turn on biometric recovery.

Turn on PIN lock for your Arrow Android app

You need to turn on screen lock in your device settings before turning on PIN lock in the Arrow app. If you haven't already, go to the device settings and turn on screen lock. Depending on your device, you'll likely find the setting in a section named "Security," "Screen lock," or "Lock screen."

Set screen lock on an Android device

Log in to the Arrow Android app.
Select the menu icon, shown as three horizontal lines, to open the side menu.
Select Settings and then Security.
Turn on PIN lock.
Create a 6-digit PIN code. You can use any combination of numbers, but be sure you can remember it.
Confirm your PIN code.

To change your PIN code, select Change PIN, enter a new PIN code, and confirm.

Open the Android app with biometrics or a PIN code turned on

After you set up biometric unlock or PIN lock for the Arrow Android app, you can open the app without using your Master Password. We'll still ask you to enter your Master Password after restarting your device or logging out manually.

If you've turned on both biometric unlock and PIN lock, biometrics is the first option that appears when you try to open your app. If biometrics fails, we'll ask you to enter your PIN.

If you enter an incorrect PIN three times, we'll ask you to enter your Master Password. We'll also ask you to enter your Master Password if you only have biometric unlock turned on and biometrics fails.

If you have a passwordless account and enter your PIN incorrectly three times, you're taken back to the login page. To access your account in the Android app, you'll need to use our security challenge or a QR code from a different device. If you're not logged in to Arrow on other devices, you can use your account recovery key.

Common questions

Do unlock methods replace my Master Password?

If you have a Master Password for your Arrow account, unlock methods don't completely replace your Master Password. You'll need to enter your Master Password every 14 days or whenever you log in after logging out of your account manually.

You also need your Master Password to view or autofill logins or Secure Notes if you've turned on the setting Require Master Password for that item.

You might need to enter your Master Password when you change some settings, like adding a new fingerprint, turning on PIN lock, or changing your Master Password.

Unlock methods only replace your Master Password if you’ve set up a passwordless Arrow account.

If you're a member of a Arrow Business or Omnix plan who logs in using single sign-on (SSO), you can use your biometrics or a code instead of the SSO sign-in process to log in on your mobile device.

Do unlock methods replace 2-factor authentication (2FA)?

No, the unlock methods in this article don't replace 2FA. After turning on 2FA, you'll need your 2FA token and Master Password the first time you log in. After you turn on Biometric unlock or PIN lock, you'll use your fingerprint or PIN code instead of your Master Password.

If you've turned on 2FA for every time you log in to Arrow: You'll need a 2FA token and your fingerprint or PIN code for every login. You can select Disable 2FA in the security settings of the Arrow Android app, and you won't need to enter a 2FA token when unlocking that particular device.

What devices can I use to unlock my app with my fingerprint or PIN code?

To turn on biometrics on Android, you need a device that can read fingerprints. However, Biometric unlock in Arrow doesn't work with fingerprint recognition on certain older Samsung devices. Make sure you have the most recent version of Arrow.
