You can use biometrics—Face ID or Touch ID—to open the Arrow app on your Apple devices when available. You can also use a PIN code to unlock our app—alone or as a backup for Face ID or Touch ID. With these settings, you can quickly and securely unlock the app without entering your Master Password.
If you have an account protected by a Master Password, Arrow still asks you to enter your Master Password after restarting your device or logging out manually. You'll also need to enter your Master Password when you change some settings or change your Master Password.

Turn on Face ID or Touch ID for your Arrow Apple app
Face ID or Touch ID is the first option that appears to unlock the Arrow app for Master Password and passwordless accounts.
Set up your Arrow Apple app to open with a PIN
If you've turned on Face ID or Touch ID and it fails, you're asked for your PIN. You can also only use a PIN to unlock the Arrow app.
Change your PIN:
- Log in to the Arrow Apple app.
- On your iPhone, select Settings in the bottom menu and then Security. On your iPad or macOS app, select the gear icon above the left menu and then Security.
- Select Change PIN.
- Enter and confirm your new PIN.
Open the Arrow Apple app with Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN
After you set up Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN for the Arrow Apple app, you can open the app without using your Master Password. We'll still ask you to enter your Master Password after restarting your device or logging out manually.
If Face ID or Touch ID doesn't recognize you, try again. If you can't open the app after two tries, we'll ask you to enter your Master Password or your backup PIN to open the app. If you can't open the app with your PIN, we'll ask you to enter your Master Password after three tries.
What if my PIN doesn't work?
If your PIN doesn't work, try these steps:
- When opening the Arrow app, enter an incorrect PIN three times. Arrow will then ask for your Master Password.
- Log in to the Arrow app.
- On your iPhone, select Settings in the bottom menu and then Security. On your iPad or macOS app, select the gear icon above the left menu and then Security.
- In the Settings menu, select Security.
- Turn Use PIN off and turn it on again.
- Enter and confirm a new PIN.
Lock the Arrow iPhone app when you're not using it
You can lock your iPhone app anytime by going to Settings and selecting Lock app.
With Auto-lock timeout, you can lock your iPhone app automatically after you've been inactive for a set time. This way, you can ensure that no one can access your data, even if you lose your phone.
- Log in to the Arrow iPhone app.
- Select Settings and then Security.
- Next to Auto-lock timeout, select the amount of time you've been inactive before the app locks. The timeout is set to 5 minutes automatically, but you can choose Never or other times up to 10 minutes.
Turn on Lock on exit to lock your app automatically whenever you leave it—when you go to the home screen, switch between apps, or close the screen.
- Log in to the Arrow iPhone app.
- Select Settings and then Security.
- Select Lock on exit.
To turn off Lock on exit, you'll need to enter your Master Password or use Face ID if you've turned it on.
Common questions
Do unlock methods replace my Master Password?
If you have a Master Password for your Arrow account, unlock methods don't completely replace your Master Password. You'll need to manually enter your Master Password whenever you log in after logging out of your account or restarting.
You also need your Master Password to view or autofill logins or Secure Notes if you've turned on the setting Require Master Password for that item.

Unlock methods only replace your Master Password if you’ve set up a passwordless Arrow account.
If you're a member of a Arrow professional plan who logs in using single sign-on (SSO), you can use your biometrics or a PIN instead of the SSO sign-in process to log in on your mobile device.
Do unlock methods replace 2-factor authentication (2FA)?
No, the unlock methods in this article don't replace 2FA. If you've turned on 2FA, you'll need your 2FA token and Master Password the first time you log in. After you turn on Face ID, Touch ID, or PIN, you'll use your fingerprint or PIN code instead of your Master Password.
What devices can I use to unlock my app with my biometrics or a PIN?
On iPhones, you can use Face ID with Phone X and later. You also need the Arrow iOS app version 6.2152.0 or later to set up a backup PIN after turning on Face ID or Touch ID. If you have an earlier version of the app, you need to turn off one option to turn on the other.
When do I have to enter my Master Password after turning on an unlock method?
With this setting, you only lock and unlock your app using biometrics or a PIN. You don't log in and log out each time. Arrow still asks you to enter your Master Password in these situations:
- After restarting your device
- When you have trouble unlocking the app
- When you want to change some settings, for example, turning off Lock on exit
- If you log out manually
